The best time to buy equipment for winter spots - spring and summer! Best discounts, and good sales. I will shortly describe my experience starting snowboarding, with all the equipment I got.
1. Outfits
I am fan of burton GORE-TEX jacket and pants and gloves - super comfy and warm.
GORE-TEX fabric is windproof, waterproof, breathable, and durable: It's the versatile solution to staying warm and dry while moving outside. There are different levels of waterproof and warmth - you choose based on the temperature of areas you go.
2. Helmet
I find very important to get the helmet, we've learned so much information, which one protects better and looks cute, choosing from Anon models Logan helmet seems the best.
3. Snowboard
I was disappointed in Burton women boards designs and found Rome snowboards, the company is based in Vermont by one of ex-Burton workers, so if you ride in East Cost - I got the level intermediate to advance HEIST. Here is the board which size based on your height and weight batter to choose.

4. Bandings
The same brand - Rome has very good bandings. Here is another website with good discounts. Size based on the size of shoes.

6. Glasses
I don't remember where I got mine, but would mention that love orange color glasses.
7. PASS
And the most important, we discovered INDY PASS last year and totally satisfied, saved on it lots of money. It allows you to choose any of the coasts you mostly are going to ride. For example we did East coast. And it cost approx $300 for a season (as earlier you buy - is cheaper), what will cover your expenses in 4-5 times riding in a season.
Or if you ride just couple time a year, the pass of course is not essential at all.
