Brilliant movies involved Russians or about Russians, I watched recently and would recommend:

2. Russian Ark - 2002, a tribute to the world-famous Hermitage Museum in Russia’s St. Petersburg, this impressive 96-minute film is shot in one continuous take, employing over 2,000 actors and extras.

3. The Death of Stalin - 2018 movie about Moscow in 1953, after being in power for nearly thirty years, Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin takes ill and quickly dies. Now the members of the Council of Ministers scramble for power

A few documentaries:

4. Icarus - 2017, the Oscar-winning film, an American cyclist plunges into a vast Olympic Games doping scandal involving a Russian scientist - Gregory Rodchenkov.

5. The Putin Interviews - 2017, Oliver Stone conducts a revealing series of Interviews with Putin. Very entertaining to watch.
